Sisters of the Holy Spirit (S.H.Sp) was founded in Koblenz Germany on 4th June 1857 by Mother Irmina Hoelscher. It extended it mission activities to India in 1973. Gradually the Congregation opened many centres in different parts of the country. We contribute to the mission of the church through various ministries like Education, Health care, Social work and Pastoral works.
"The Spirit blows where it wills…."
As a member of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit Congregation, when I look at our history over the past years and my personal life- journey, I can only confirm this statement by the Apostle John, "The Spirit blows where it wills…." This is what happened in the life of our mother Irmina and her companions.
Jesus is our Model and constant Guide for us to lead such a life led by the Holy Spirit. Only then we can live our call as Sisters of the Holy Spirit and witness to our Charism: "To be and build up dynamic Communities in the Holy Spirit where ever we are". We like to live in a vibrant and Spirit filled Community. It is a beautiful concept but challenging, to live with different cultures and languages together to fulfill our "Mission" today."The only language that all people understand is the language of love." Jesus said, "I have come that you might have life, life in abundance!" (John 10:10).
I am convinced that we, The Sisters of the Holy Spirit, as a small congregation with our Charism in the world today have a very important mission to fulfill - To work as "Bridge-builders" where we are. We are called to work towards unity in diversity.
Welcome to our website!
I thank you for viewing our website which tells something about our Congregation, 'Sisters of the Holy Spirit'. Our Foundress Mother Irmina Hoelscher had a vision to build up a world of equal justice, freedom and possibilities especially for the women and children. Through the past 157 years of our service we committed to live this vision by taking daring steps to respond to the need of the hour. We aim to make a difference through our presence and service. "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of God" (Gandhi). In this era of technological progress the entire world is knit together through means of communication. We share a common concern for the world. I wish all the readers and my sisters that you become an agent of good news, agent of progress and a catalyst of transformation and bring God's reign on earth. "Religious men & women need to be prophetic, capable of waking up the world..........., who have something to say to the world today" (Pope Francis).
