FORMATION

The aim of Formation

Religious formation is the process that helps one to become a disciple of Christ, and gradually identify with the spirit of Christ growing in union with him. Formation shall prepare and enable our sisters to assume our way of life and the apostolic mission of our congregation.

The formation period is divided into different stages like Pre-novitiate, Novitiate, Juniorate, Tertianship and ongoing formation.

The pre-novitiate is divided into Aspirancy and Postulancy. An aspirant shall have a sense of being called personally by Christ and the desire to respond to his call. The Postulancy is a time for the discerning of the aspirant's fitness for religious life. The postulant comes to understand deeply and personally the life and ministries of the religious community and the community gets a chance to decide on the suitability of the postulant.

The Novitiate is a time of preparation and probation. Its purpose is to give the novice a greater understanding of her divine vocation and her special call to the congregation of Sisters of The Holy Spirit. She is given an opportunity to learn the charism, the rules of St. Augustine, and the way of life and apostolic services. They are helped to meet God and confirm their vocation in preparation for first profession through periods of prayer and solitude and of formative activity. They are also to be helped to integrate religious life and other activities

JUNIORATE:

It is a phase of formation of sisters who are temporarily professed. It is time of on-going discernment of God's will in preparation for final commitment. The junior sister is called to search, in the context of community and mission, for the meaning of the evangelical counsels. The goal of this period is to deepen one's personal commitment to Christ and to integrate the human, spiritual, apostolic and professional aspects of life within the context of community. .

TERTAINSHIP

Tertianship is a period of intense preparation for Final Commitment. The goal of this phase is to create opportunities for on-going development in prayer, community life, and mission and to commit intensely oneself to the preparation for final vows. It is achieved through continued guidance on personal development, retreat, various classes silence and prayer.

ON GOING FORMATION

Under the guidance of the co-ordinator programmes and resources are provided to all the finally professed sisters in the Province. These programmes are designed to meet the needs of the sisters as they move through the various phases of life.

Each sister is responsible for her own personal growth and the community is also involved in mutual evaluation which promotes her growth. The Provincial Superior will assess sisters' development, her needs and plan for her human, spiritual and professional growth.
